A long overdue "thank you for dropping by". It has been the usual whirlwind and then some as we were getting ready for our Show at Montana Jack's and I didn't even find time to update the site. However, rest assured it all went over better than we ever could have expected. People came out of the wood work and at any given moment we had 150-200 people passing through at the reception which lasted an extra hour than the two we had planned. Lynn did a great job with the hors d'hourves, our friend Chris Clark kept the wine flowing and we blew the top off the place. Lynn's photographs from her adventures around the world sold well and provided a great element of interest as people saw the head hunters from Papua New Guinea, Moraco, Montana brandings, Africa, China, and the jungles of the Amazon. I had about 35 paintings on display and we managed to put "sold" on 2/3 of them. Very gratifying to say the least. I got about 10 commissions to get me back to the ease as well. The remainder of the work I have been taking around to the galleries for later sale I hope. You can see a few of them on "New Work".
When I say it was a whirlwind you can add to the art show the fact that a week before I had to be over to the annual fund raiser for the Carbon County Arts Guild in Red Lodge, Mt. "Art in the Beartooths" is the big art event of the season over there and I painted a 16x20 oil of an Indian on horseback standing in the shadows of a stream reminiscent of "Fishing the Shadows". They gave us 2 1/2 hours to paint while people strolled around the gallery grounds watching us work. The items were auctioned off after a reception and dinner under the big tent set up for the purpose and my piece went well at $1,400.00. I was very grateful and pleased.
After our show at Mt. Jack's Lynn headed out on a press trip to the Bahamas and I have been tacking shoes on the remainder of the unshod horses in order to get the heck out of Dodge and head to the hills for some much needed R and R. I will take the paints of course. A couple of old outfitter buddies are coming along and in a couple of days we hope to be cooling our heels at about 11,000 feet with nothing to do but change the horses' pickets and swap stories whether they are true or not! The camp we are heading to is situated at timber line next to a big glacier where the breeze blows in cool on these hot summer days and keeps the flies off the horses who just love the lush green high country pasture. I hope to have some pictures painted of the place when I get back down and will post them next time. So, until then, thanks again for your interest. I appreciate your being here. Sincerely, Tom
