Well, it has been beautiful autumn this year. For the past week and a half I have been painting a scene for some friends that puts me on the river as the sun comes up each day. ( Well, almost each day... Sunday we headed over to the Boulder River and tied into some fine rainbow trout! Like I said, it was Sunday and I left the easel where it stood for a day of rest.) Monday morning I was back hard at it at the scene is on the Stillwater River though. After the morning commute up a deserted canyon I set up the easel where the river comes out of the mountains and can be pouring a cup of coffee from the thermos around 8:00 A.M. ready to paint. I love it. This is a gorgeous Indian summer kicking in this year. The only hard part about being next to the river for a few hours each day is the fact that I am perched on a log right next to a very fine hole where fish rise every now and then to taunt me. ( This afternoon Lynn and I stuck away and got the drop on them, though. Some nice browns took dry flies and put up a good scrap!) Anyway, I am almost ready to put a couple of Indians horseback crossing the stream and then it will be done and ready to post.
Afternoons have been spent working on the big 6 foot by 7 foot oil of a herd of horses running into the for ground. A powerful sky sets off the mountains in the background. I thought it would be fun to post this one as a work in progress so you will have something to actually see when you sign in. I do appreciate your doing so of course, and I hope you will find this painting as much fun to watch in progress as I am enjoying doing it. Hopefully it will get me updating this post more often as well... Anyway, may the autumn treat you well. Vaja con Dios. Tom
